Not All Sketches are Created Equal!

Another rainy day
I painted this sketch back in my hotel room, trying to capture the atmosphere of a London rainy day, without great success. I so admire those artists who competently render busy city scenes with just the essential strokes of paint! But the truth is that I need to heed my own advice, I’ve given to my students for so many years, that creating art should be more about the process and less about the product. We, as artists, strive for ‘great paintings’ yet it is the act of sketching and painting as a daily exercise, that brings about the best work! To lose oneself in the act of creating truly comes close to touching the Devine! So I am posting this sketch, regardless of how little I like it, to remind myself and others that the process of painting and sketching, in itself, is a beautiful thing!
